Grauman’s Gone Wrong

I just heard on the news that people are already lining up at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in LA for the premiere of the Star Wars III- “Revenge of the Sith”. The premiere isn’t until May 19th. Amazing! Unfortunately, the premiere isn’t even at Grauman’s, it is going to open a mile or so away at the ArcLight theater. Let me make a few spiritual applications:

First, I applaud the dedication of these fans that started lining up April 2. Camping out in front of a theater for six weeks isn’t my idea of fun. I am amazed at what some people will do just to be first! More to the point, it bothers me that some people put more effort into what I would characterize as “frivolous” than I often do into the Eternal.

Second, being dedicated and sacrificial doesn’t mean a thing if you are in the wrong line up. How many people have, spiritually speaking, lined up outside of the wrong theater? What you believe matters. There is such a thing as absolute truth. Grauman’s theater is the wrong theater and believing it is the right theater isn’t going to change anything. Those who have lined up won’t get into the premiere. The same is true for faith. Believing in something isn’t enough. You have to believe in what is right, real and true.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
