Can Heaven Wait by Jerry Meyer

Some folks want to get to Heaven just as soon as Jesus will allow them to go. Others, like myself, realize that Heaven is forever and I enjoy life here on earth. Not that my life doesn't have ups and downs, but, while I want very much to go to Heaven, I don't really want to be part of the next boatload! I'm fully prepared to hear from my readers who are on either side of this issue and some who are in the middle. Didn't Paul say that he had mixed feelings? To go on would be good for him, but not so good for those who were entrusted into his care.

One thing I have noticed is this: The Bible doesn't have much to say about the details regarding Heaven. It's a beautiful place. There are streets of gold. However, it seems to me that the best feature of Heaven will be that Jesus will be there with us for eternity.

I've noticed that as I've moved on down my own road of life, I find that people come up missing. It seems that I've got more and more friends and family headed over to the other side. Nearly 25 years ago, my wife, Joyce, went Home. My Grandaddy and Grandma went to be with Jesus, too. Less than a year ago, my sister-in-law, Cathy, left Don and flew to the arms of Jesus after more than five years battling breast cancer. Pat's father went Home. Just recently, a friend named Nathan left us and headed for Heavenly shores. Just a couple of weeks ago, brother in law Jim passed over rather suddenly. Probably many more are now gone.

I've been homesick a couple of times in my life. When I think of all those waiting for me on the other side, I confess to times of homesicknesses now. I know I'll join them some day. There will be an Easter Resurrection for all of us one of these days. Won't that be a neat time of reunion?

Jerry Meyer AKA PapaJ, past away June 21, 2005. Miss you bunches, Jerry!—Grant
